Edinburgh Festival

Edinburgh Festival Information

What is the Edinburgh Festival?

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the single greatest and largest celebration of arts and culture in the world. For three weeks in August, the city of Edinburgh welcomes an explosion of creative energy from around the globe. Artists and performers take to hundreds of stages all over the city to present shows for every taste. From big names in the world of entertainment to unknown artists looking to build their careers, the festival caters for everyone and includes theatre, comedy, dance, physical theatre, circus, cabaret, children's shows, musicals, opera, music, spoken word, exhibitions and events.

Most Fringe shows take place in pop-up or non-traditional spaces, repurposed for the month of August to showcase theatre, music, comedy, cabaret and everything in between.

Picking a show...

This is probably the hardest part, as there's over 3,000 shows happening every single day across the city. Venues are color coded and run separately from each other. I've listed the 4 best venues below if you want to explore and book anything in advance. Popular shows will likely sell out for weekend performances.

Shows range from ~$8 to $25 per ticket and most are about an hour long. They usually run from around noon until midnight everyday.

Also, don't forget to check out the Royal Mile! This is normally a hub for free street performers selling their shows.
